Nanotech - from science to business

B&W combines unique knowledge on future business and nanotechnology. Nanotechnology refers to the creation of materials, devices and systems on the nanometer (one billionth of a meter) scale, and is widely recognized as a key technology photo by BASF that will dramatically impact the majority of industrial sectors and every day life. Applications range from fast, miniature computers to alternative energy sources to new medical treatments and smart textiles, just to mention a few examples.

A key partner in NanoRoadMap

In the last few years, B&W has consolidated its position in the field of nanotech. B&W was a key partner in the NanoRoadMap (NRM) project, co-funded by the EC 6th Framework Programme, with the objective to provide technology roadmaps for the application of nanotech in 3 key sectors:

  1. Nanomaterials
  2. Energy
  3. Health

Stakeholders around the world have been using these roadmaps to optimize their investments and research efforts. The project used a Delphi-like approach in order to bring together opinions from leading experts around the globe. B&W elaborated the Roadmap on Nanomaterials, allowing us to strengthen our first-class international network of contacts in the field.

Multifaceted involvement in the nanotech arena

B&W is also experienced in the promotion of nanotechnologies. We have executed, for example, an international conference on the topic, and have elaborated a divulging report on nanotech for the Government of Catalonia. Finally, we are also strongly involved in business creation based on nanotech, with experiences going back to 1993 when we supported research on zeolite nano-membranes. We continue supporting nanotech entrepreneurs ever since.
