Thin films mogul looking into nano

If film was your business, you needed to find something else. Just 15 years ago, photographic film was a vital business, but those that were monitoring digital cameras and their inroads into the mass market, knew that drastic change lay ahead. Which is why by the end of the 90’s, we were contacted by a major producer of photographic film who wanted to explore the business opportunities inside what was then the haystack of nanotechnology. The potential was clear: producers of photographic film have the unique skill to deposit nanoscale silver particles in a homogeneous way onto a polymer substrate. And unlike most nanotech start-ups that were claiming business potential without any production facilities, our client had several production lines ready to apply.

Our client hired us for a straight forward mission: find us nanotech players or nanotech areas that can leverage our unique competence into a defendable market proposition with real end user added value and real business potential in hundred-million-euro markets.

We delivered detailed profiles of more than 40 opportunities, complete with contact details for potential partnering candidates. We trained the internal team responsible for the business re-orientation in the use and maintenance of the database we had created to manage all the information related to the opportunities. We introduced our client directly to high potential candidates for partnering; organizing time-efficient visits to several players in condensed multi-meeting trips. Our client could then move quickly but discretely into a selected number of new nanotech business opportunities.
