MARE project launched at the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul on March 17th

‘Managing Adaptive REsponses to changing flood risk’. MARE, a three-year, 5,2M Euro project with 15 beneficiaries and over 20 associated partners will be publicly launched at the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul on March 17th.

In Istanbul, the MARE partners, Dordrecht and Bergen will present at the COST C22 event: ‘Anticipating extreme events in urban areas; European & Asian practice’. Afterwards a drink will be hosted at the Netherlands Water Partnership to toast to the launch of the project. This event is an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership, its international networks, and to introduce the project, especially to policy makers and various media.

MARE will enable the widespread implementation of local adaptive measures that mitigate flood risk. For this, MARE will set up Learning and Action Alliances in the Netherlands, England, Germany and Norway. Climate Proofing methodologies will be demonstrated in the cities of Dordrecht (NL), Sheffield and Rotherham (UK), Hannover (DE), Bergen (N) and Seattle (USA). The insights from the project will feed into national and regional policy development trajectories, among which the implementation of the EU Flood Directive.

B&W has supported the city of Dordrecht with the project creation and is currently coordinating the alignment of the demonstration projects and guiding the process to connect the scientific knowledge with practical and policy needs.
