Urban Flood Management Dordrecht successfully finished

In 2008 the Urban Flood Management (UFM) project was successfully finished with the celebration of a closing event and the publication of the project results on www.ufmdordrecht.com. During the closing event the city Alderman Van Steensel and Living with Water executive and project officer Nijburg stressed the strategic importance of the results and the partnerships created. In the preface of the final report Annemieke Nijhof, the Director General of Water Management of the Dutch ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, stated that she would like to see the UFM approach being broadly implemented.

The city of Dordrecht, supported by B&W, is already implementing the approach in its policy programmes and an urban development project. The Dutch national Delta Commission incorporated UFM knowledge and explicitly mentioned the UFM project in its policy recommendations. Likewise, regional water safety policy development used UFM Dordrecht as a case study. Moreover the international, follow-up research and policy development project MARE defined with support of B&W, was recently approved by the Interreg 4b North Sea programme. We are looking forward to continue to work with our clients and partners to create and exploit the collaborations and knowledge generated.
